AYURVEDIC MASSAGE and
AYURVEDIC TOTAL ESCAPE
Ayurvedic Massage originates in Southern India and works to alleviate muscular aches, pains and tension. With the use of Ayurvedic herbal oils, the body is massaged with the foot while the practitioner uses a rope for balance, in a room that has been gently heated to promote deeper relaxation.
Ayurvedic Massage is a deeply relaxing and reviving technique which leaves the body and mind of the recipient in a light, clear and receptive state. This very thorough treatment encourages the loosening and releasing of tension and pain throughout the whole body. The heated oils used in this therapy at The Wellington Centre are from the region of Tamil Nadu in India and are a 100% organic blend, infused with beneficial herbs. When applied, the oils seep under the skin helping to dispel accumulated toxins.
There is a choice of traditional treatments: you can be massaged with the hands, or with the feet. The Kalari Marma (hand version) mostly focusses on the back and sides of the body, and is performed on a couch; this is available as a one-hour or 90-minute treatment.
Chavutti Thiramal, however, is a unique form of massage which uses the pressure of the feet to iron out all the subtle knots and kinks throughout the body and mind. An overhead rope is used for the therapist to balance, allowing for optimum pressure on the body. In both types of Ayurvedic Massage, there is an overall balancing of all systems, including the meridians, the circulatory systems, a toning and stretching of all muscle tissue and detoxifying of the major organs. The treatment can also help you to feel more aware and in tune with your body.
For a truly extraordinary experience, why not combine Ayurvedic Massage with a one-to-one Yoga session, in Chris’s Ayurvedic Total Escape? Chris is a very popular Yoga teacher at The Wellington Centre, and is able to offer one hour of one-to-one yoga, focussing on postures and breath work, with guided meditation - which loosen and open the mind, so that you will be truly receptive for a 90-minute Ayurvedic massage. During this treatment, practitioner’s foot is dipped in oil, then swept over the body from top to toe in deep rhythmic movements, allowing for freedom of internal enrgy flow - leaving you feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready for the world…

What Ayurvedic Massage did for me…
‘Before this treatment I was incredibly tense and was suffering slight pain and stiffness in my lower back. I decided to go for this massage as it sounded relaxing, refreshing – and different! The use of the oils during the massage relaxed me hugely – so much so that I actually fell asleep a couple of times. I awoke feeling completely rejuvenated and in a much lighter and clearer state of mind, with all tightness in my back banished. I can’t recommend this treatment too highly, and will definitely be back for more.’ SO, Bexhill
‘Chris’s is a very tranquil, positive and moving therapy; I feel energised, confident and happy. Thank you so much - I will be seeing you again…’ NJ, Hastings
