Craig Sams and Josephine Fairley are co-founders of Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate, and jointly own Judges Bakery – Hastings Old Town’s award-winning organic artisan bakery and one-stop organic food store. Craig is Chairman of The Soil Association and president of Green & Black’s, and is also Chair of Hastings Slow Food. In 1967, Craig opened Europe’s first macrobiotic restaurant, in Notting Hill, and started several pioneering natural and organic food businesses including Harmony Foods and Whole Earth Foods, before co-founding Green & Black’s. Craig is author of several books, including About Macrobiotics, The Macrobiotic Brown Rice Cookbook and The Little Food Book.
Jo is Chairman of The Soil Association’s Health Products Standards Committee, and a ‘matron’ of the Women’s Environment Network. She was also a founding trustee of the Cancer Prevention & Education Trust. She is a widely-published journalist and bestselling author of health and beauty titles, including The Beauty Bible series of books (written with Sarah Stacey), which is the world’s bestselling series of beauty books. During her years as a journalist, Jo has visited many of the world’s leading spas and beauty clinics, and her experiences there have helped to shape the vision for 44 Wellington Square, by incorporating the best of what she has seen and enjoyed, around the globe.
