Elizabeth Heren

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and work with adults and young adults. A key element in counselling and psychotherapy is empathic listening and being listened to in this way can help a new perspective on a problem or situation emerge. My approach is integrative and transpersonal which means I combine different therapeutic approaches: exploring the dynamics of an issue on one hand, and on the other, asking what is being challenged to change or grow because of it.

From childhood to adulthood, we develop beliefs about ourselves and others that influence our behaviour and experiences positively or negatively. In counselling and therapy, we explore the impact and ongoing influence of negative experiences, while discovering untapped resources to support you. From the transpersonal perspective we see crisis and difficulties as opportunities to develop a more compassionate and inclusive view of yourself and your relationships.

Alongside talking therapy, I work with breathwork, visualisation and meditation to support this process, and when words are not enough.

I have been in private practice for 20 years in London and latterly online during lockdown. I facilitated and supervised diploma students at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education for 10 years and was a member of their assessment team until 2018. At Lambeth Hospital, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust I supervised art therapists, and for Breathing Space/Dance Art Foundation provided clinical support for dancers working in psychiatric and social care settings. From time to time, I run ‘Movement & Story’ workshops, a space for imagination, play and storytelling through movement and voice.
